UP - Milwaukee River Bridge

Looking North from Sunny Point Road

This railroad bridge reminds me of the long trestles we had as kids on our model railroads. This span seems to have a total elevated length of several blocks.

There are 18 spans from west to east. The westernmost spans have manufacturer's plaques from American Bridge Co. and are dated 1928. Span #2 crosses the Milwaukee River Parkway, Span #3 is a deck truss that crosses the Milwaukee River. This is Span #14 that crosses Sunny Point Road. Spans #4 through #13 cross land, as do Spans #15 through #18.

The concrete piers appear to be much more recent than the plate girder deck spans.
