Description
This Bridge is the fourth bridge at this location able to carry significant loads. It replaced another Iron bridge that was here immediately preceding it. It was Made and put in place in 1880 and remained here until 1914 when the Jones Street Bridge replaced it. The bridge was then moved to Johnson street. It was removed from Johnson street previous to 1983 when the new Johnson Street Bridge was installed. The finials from the Commerce street bridge remain on the Johnson Street site to this day. Interestingly, Grand Ave was renamed Jones Street in 1890. Yet the Tee Beam on E. Commerce to replace this bridge was still named the Jones street bridge in 1915.
