I love this old bridge and wanted it restored as well. Dayton government want it down and replaced because they do not want to pay someone to restore it because it costs too much which I feel is probably not true, but do not have the facts. Might not be replaced for a while as city does not have infrasture money,i.e bridge replacement, but we will wait it out. Going to be replaced with two spans instead of one. It really has the coolest design I have ever seen.
And by the way...Replicating the original railings on these spans would restore the missing view of the river!

I just visited 8 historic concrete bridges in South Bend, Indiana (many of which are older than this one) and they have ALL been restored and maintained!
If they want to design something then they need to design a restoration!

Believe the attached photo as shown in the following book may show the bridge before the concrete arch at this location (or perhaps a previous bridge on the other side of the island). This island was home to a "White City" amusement park before the flood of 1913.
