I see the other plaque went missing.
I'm not surprised by this beauty being bypassed, as this road carries quite a bit of traffic. I only hope that they do the old bridge right in the end... and not just abandon and forget about it.

Historic bridge over Miami River to be replaced
July 2, 2016
Written by THE BELLEFONTAINE EXAMINER STAFF
The Logan County Engineer’s Office hosts a public meeting regarding the proposed County Road 21 bridge project from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Bloomfield Township Building, 5726 C.R. 21.
The estimated $4.659 million project will provide a new design-standard bridge over the Great Miami River, with construction slated for 2020. At the same time, the existing historic truss bridge over C.R. 21 will remain in place for future preservation, as the structure built in 1882 is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
At the meeting, officials will offer a project presentation from 5 to 5:30 p.m., followed by public comments from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. An open house will take place during the remainder of the session, when citizens can speak one-on-one with project team members.
Individuals who desire to make public statements will be asked to limit their statements to less than three minutes.

HUH?
There were many of these Massillon spans built in a number of states, so the chances that this plaque found in Miami County, KS came from a bridge in Miami County, OH is very slim. And I got to thinking about a conversation I had with Robert Elder about a Massillon being built in Kansas, and sure enough I found where one had existed in Linn County just to the South. I looked at the Kansas Historical Society photo of the bridge and sure enough it is the same style that the firm built in the early 1880's. So, I would venture to say that the plaque probably came from the Linn County bridge.
But... It is the same style plaque, and would certainly look good sitting back atop the portal of a restored Massillon beauty! ;-)
Great day for people who love The Great Miami River CR 21 Bridge! The sign to the other end of the bridge was found by local pickers in Miami Co Kansas` The sign was give to Miami Co` road and bridge department, the sign was returned to Logan Co the end of July 2114` The sign had been missing since 1997.
Darn...Bingo got cancelled! ;-)
Glad they are saving the bridge however!!!
There is a public meeting on the 18th of June to discuss the bridge's restoration. I suspect pubic support would benefit the bridge's survival.

As you can see, the locals are thrilled that history is being preserved...:

Wonderful news to hear that this beauty will be restored. I just hope they do it right and keep the repairs in-kind!
I was at the bridge a couple years ago and was surprised at the amount of traffic it carries.
They just completed the new bridge that bypasses this one. Bridge is now closed "due to significant detioration". Rehabilitation funds have been applied for and if awarded work will start in 2022.
