856' long, according to a W-PT track profile. This tunnel was originally named Copeland Tunnel. It was re-named after one of the landowners where it was built.
This tunnel was NEVER a PRR/CR/OHCR tunnel. It was a Wabash/P&WV/N&W/now-W&LE tunnel which is located just to the SE of the new Mark West Energy Hopedale Fractionator/Rail Yard complex along and serviced by the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad.
The tunnel I can most closely picture as being confused with this one would be bypassed tunnel #6 along the PRR/CR/OHCR Panhandle Line between Reed's Mill and Fernwood.
What was the length of Spellacy tunnel?
Thanks for the comment and research. The video I have is about the old Pennsy (Pennsylvania Railroad). These are the old Pennsy "movies" that the PRR put out as a promotion and history of the famous railroad. On one of the segments it speaks of a bypassed tunnel near Steubenville, Ohio. I was just wondering where it was The one on the video it looks very much like this one, as does the cut, but perhaps there are others in the area.
Perhaps someone can help me here on this tunnel. I have an old railroad video that I think is this tunnel. Did tis used to be a Pennsey (PRR) line before it was NS?
Bypassed PRR/Panhandle tunnels: about 7-8 miles East of Steubenville Dinsmore/Bertha/Tunnel #4; this was just west of Burgettstown PA. Bypassing ca. 1949 to increase clearances.
