Description

One of two classic concrete rainbow arches on original alignments of highway OH 7 in Ashtabula County, Ohio. This one was rehabilitated very well in about 1999, and should now last for many decades to come.

Previous reports that this bridge was closed, likely arose because there are two very similar rainbow arch bridges on previous alignments of OH-7 in Conneaut. The bridge that is closed is the other one, listed in Related Bridges below. This bridge is open to traffic as of August 2022.

Center Road Bridge

A site visit last week showed that this beautiful rainbow arch bridge is indeed open to traffic. I drove across it, and have posted a photo of a car on it.

Photos 12-21 posted here, are actually photos of the nearby Mill Road Bridge, and should be moved there.

Brian Manville: I think you got the wrong bridge. There are two concrete rainbow arch bridges on former alignments of highway OH-7 in the area, so it can be confusing. There is this one, and http://bridgehunter.com/oh/ashtabula/mill-road/.

The bridge you visited and photographed was the Mill Road Bridge, not this Center Road Bridge. I visited both bridges in 2015. You posted a photo of modern OH-7 from the bridge, but from the Center Road Bridge, you cannot see the new OH-7 bridge through the thick vegetation. But you can easily see the OH-7 bridge from the Mill Road Bridge. The Mill Road Bridge has been closed since 2011.

I'm actually happy to see from your photos that the Mill Road Bridge is still standing in 2022, and has not deteriorated much further. The Center Road Bridge is likely still open to traffic, since it was rehabbed in 1999 and inspected as "Good" in 2019. Next time you're in that area, I suggest visiting both of these beautiful bridges, so you can see how the Mill Road Bridge could be rehabbed.

Please delete your good photos from this bridge, and add them to the Mill Road Bridge (URL above).

I visited the bridge on my way to Conneaut. I have added a note to the description that the bridge is now closed to vehicle traffic. I did not want to remove the original comment.

Roger... thanks for the update... its funny how time flies, I have visited the bridge but it was back in 2007, which was eight years ago. Nice to see and hear that its still faring well... its one of the largest and best of this type in the region.

The pictures of the wrong bridge that were formerly here seem to have been removed, which was good. I have now uploaded new pictures of the correct bridge, which I had the privilege of visiting recently. It's a gorgeous concrete rainbow arch, in excellent condition, open to traffic.

Janis,

Actually the bridge listed here still exists. Your photos are of an unknown, different bridge. We at HistoricBridges.org documented the bridge in August 2007 and it was rehabbed. http://www.historicbridges.org/ohio/centerrdashtabula/index....
