Description 

"The pinned connections and appearance of this Pratt through truss bridge suggest it was erected for Avery County about 1915, rather than in 1932, the construction date assigned to it in state bridge records. It may have been moved to this site over the Elk River in that latter year for, as the number of automobiles and traffic increased, the state often relocated truss bridges from primary highways to local roads. The bridge has seen many changes over its life: beams have been welded to the floorbeams, connections replaced and strengthened, and the original railings supplanted. This maintenance has allowed it to survive and, in spite of alterations, the bridge remains a good example in North Carolina of a pin-connected, Pratt through truss"-NCDOT

Maybe this bridge should be named the Hornet Nest bridge I'm thinking after looking at the pictuers.

Hi, could you come back and take some more pictures of the bridge, I believe it was updated last year.
