David,
Don't you mean one bridge crossed US 82 westbound and the other US 82 eastbound? These bridges carried the first alignment of US 61 before the "new" (now former) 61 was realigned through Leland and crossed 82 at the intersection just east of the bridge locations. God bless.
This is actually 2 bridges. The first was built circa 1935 along US 82 Westbound. A second bridge (over US 82 Westbound) was built around 1955. Both bridges were removed in the mid 1980's.
I doubt many of you were around during the Heyday of this heralded bridge! As far as there being no good on the East side of it I take major offense, for you see, I helped build this beautiful structure. Some of my friends died helping build this magnificent bridge! I lived in Venice when I was born you see, if we hadn't made it to Barnes Hospital on time I might not be here. Im' sure there is bad and good on both sides of this bridge, for you see my grandfather was murdered in St. Louis. My father worked at The East St. Louis Stockyards when I was growing up. No I am' not black although I grew up with blacks and find that there is good and bad in all of us. I am' a U.S. Army Veteran and I love every inch of our country!
