Thanks for the links to my blog. I got those photos from a book the town of Burlington published for its 150th anniversary back in the 1970s. The book also shows a photo of a woman posing in front of the old covered bridge, near a sign that said "Danger - At Own Risk" -- apparently, the covered bridge was in sad, sorry shape when it was replaced.
I have read that the formwork for the concrete arch bridge was washed away in a flood and had to be redone, and it left the Michigan Road closed for four years at this location. It kind of boggles the mind.
