The long disputed date of construction has been settled. Research by Dr. James Cooper has discovered that this bridge was built in 1879.

The bridge is currently off of the river and the trusses are being repaired. A very unique method was used to remove the Southern truss, is was slid to the West between sets of steel beams that were driven into the ground. The Northern truss appears to have been conventionally lifted. See the videos on You Tube:

At this time 2/12/12 the ceylon bridge is only a skeleton, as it is being rehabilitated.
