C&NW - Old US54 Bridge
Posted April 29, 2019, by Tim (springfieldbridges [at] gmail [dot] com)

here is a snippet from Railway Age Gazette Vol 56, 1914:

South of the river the country west of Springfield is rolling for several miles, the next work of importance being the crossing of the C. P. & St. L. (now Abandoned), the Baltimore & Ohio (near Jefferson at BANDO) and the Wabash (now Norfolk Southern) near the town of Curran. The C. P. & St. L. crosses the Wabash at grade just east of this town and the new North Western line crosses both of them overhead just east of the grade crossing.

Attached is a photo from 1914

UP - Old US 36 Overpass
Posted December 12, 2014, by Bill Graber (foursecretary [at] aol [dot] com)

This was actually last used by the C&NW railroad and was abandoned when the UP bought the line. It originally went over the Wabash (now NS), the old CMSTP&P that was taken out in the early 1940's and Rt. 36 (or Rt. 10 as it was designated first). The highway used the northern portal and then the railroads used the next 2 southern portals. When the CMSTP&P stopped running through it, the Illinois Department of Highways upgraded Rt. 36, widened it and used the middle portal for the new concrete road.
