Description 

Location is described as 3 miles West of Mt Vernon Illinois on US 460 over the Big Muddy River. In 1973 the river was dammed to form Rend Lake. US 460 between St.Louis Missouri and New Harmony Indiana was decommissioned in 1975.

The bridge collapsed after the top of a fork truck became caught in the superstructure.
