Description

40 year old cantilever bridge burned August 5, 1968. Workers were putting the finishing touches on the newly refurbished bridge when a cutting torch ignited the freshly creosoted deck timbers. The inferno’s intense heat twisted and buckled the steel skeleton of the span and sent the cantilever structure crashing into the river.
