Originally erected in 1889 on the Leesburg & Alexandria Turnpike over Goose Creek to replace a bridge destroyed by flooding. In 1932 the bridge was dismantled and moved to it's current location likely to replace another span.

Bridge temporarily closed and detour in place while it receives $5.6 million in improvements which includes "the installation of the existing truss above a new steel-beam and timber-deck bridge, the addition of a new bridge pier and upgraded bridge railings."


Via a link titled "Bridge Plan Sheets - April 2018" within the above link, posted below shows a pier splitting the span 88'-8" / 70'-4":

This is the missing Variety Iron Works Bridge I was looking for some time ago!

At one time there was a site for Historic Bridges of Virginia that had one listed in Loudoun County built by VIW. From previous searches on this and another site I assumed it was gone. I was apparently thrown off by the date which is incorrect, as this span was likely built around 1890.

Hopefully this span is still an extant example of the firm's work.
