Pelican Island Bridge, also know as the Herbert E. Schmidt Causeway

Read your information of the Pelican Island Bridge. Constructed from 1955 to 1957, open to traffic in 1960. Design is a bascule span of a Scherger Rolling Lift Type. Consist of three sections 51st viaduct, 26' width,2123 LF, 0.402083 mi, roadway between viaduct and bridge, 26'Width,2326LF, 0.440530, Pelican Bridge, 3225.775 LF, 0.610942. 26' width. Pelican Island location, South end, lat. 29 18 24.4008, long. -94 49 32.1242, North end lat. 29 18 53.2959, long. -94 49 15.86, Bascule lat. 29 18 38.41, long. -94 49 24.8304, control tower lat. 29 18 37.9301, long. -94 49 25.6173. Inspection conducte in 2010, rehab repairs began on August 3, 2011 and is on going as of June 27, 2012. Painted, sub-structure deficiencies have been repaired.Awaiting apprasial rating from TXDOT Bridge Division.
