Description
The Willet Hollow Tunnel was bored using the single-beam method (standard for railroad tunnel penetration at the turn of the century) through a natural gap at Mount Roosevelt, as part of the Tennessee Central's final segment from Monterey to Glen Alice, Tennessee (later changed to Rockwood) to connect to the Cincinnati, New Orleans and Texas Pacific Railroad (later Southern Railroad).
