NS - Elk Gap Tunnel

Not abandoned, still active. NS serves the coal loadout in Newcomb several times a week which requires they go thru this tunnel. NS also makes occasional runs onto the CSX mainline, averaging about 1 every 2 weeks or so.

This tunnel is not abandoned...it is simply out of service at present. It could be opened at any time if the local coal mine awards a shipping contract to Norfolk Southern (CSX currently has the contract).
