With the new year arriving, it's time again for the annual TRUSS Awards
to recognize Top-Rated Unique Savable Structures. The purpose is to draw attention to special bridges that are threatened with demolition, but could be saved.
Nominations will be accepted through Jan. 31, with the awards announced sometime in February.
To nominate a bridge, go to the page for that bridge and click the "Nominate" button near the top. Or, for bridges that aren't listed, follow this link.
When are the results gonna come out?
The B.B. Comer Bridge, a 2013 TRUSSie, is on track to go to the next step. ALDOT has set out the criteria for a change of ownership, demo funds can potentially be used for all things except maintenance (vintage bridge reuse is included in the list with reassembly and construction). This is a big deal, if we can save a bridge of this size and history, we get a big boost.
Thanks to the TRUSS awards for bringing this bridge and friends group to our attention at Workin' Bridges.
