Those guard rails must be a recent addition, as I didn't remember seeing those (only the older rails you see on the sides were there) last time I went across (a couple of years ago). There used to be another very similar bridge a small distance away, but it was replaced with one of those large pipes and just paved over like a normal road. I'm surprised they didn't do that with this bridge.
I forgot to mention this earlier....but I may have some good news for people who hate to see old bridges destroyed (me being one of them). According to what I've read and heard around Jasper (I live just outside of the city limits), there are absolutely *NO* plans to destroy (or completely replace with a UCEB...or whatever an ugly concrete bridge is called around this site) this bridge whatsoever. I do hope all that is true......because this is a very historic landmark in Jasper.
IIRC, the railroad isn't abandoned. I recall seeing trains using that railroad within the past couple of months.
Also, the bridge, from what I've heard and read, is supposed to be repaired eventually to allow vehicles to drive over it again.
