I want to thank all of those, past, present, and future, that update or add info to the bridges I post. It means a lot to me to see the historic bridges, tunnels, culverts, viaducts, etc. have a place to be remembered and I like to contribute what I can. I am not an expert on bridges as you can see, but I do try to post what limited info I do have.
Replacement is being built, with girders and piers already in place.
Some more information on the bridge and its eventual replacement: https://ycitynews.com/2264/news/philo-duncan-falls-bridge-to...
This bridge is nearing the end of its lifespan. Seen a bunch of construction equipment on both sides of the river, including a big crane. Start looking into changing the status pretty soon, maybe end of the year to sometime in spring 2019.
What is wrong with watching trains? Trains are relaxing.
Looks like a perfect spot for railfanning.
I really don't understand why Muskingum County neglected these two bridges, but it shows what happens when you neglect and have no crossing for many miles. If you want to cross the river by truck, you either have to go across at Zanesville or go to McConnellsville.
Sad history about the place with the hawks leaving due to the blasting and the incident with Union Carbide essentially murdering its workers.
Interesting bridge. But who coined Hawk's Nest for this area is what I am wondering?
Here is a picture of the dingus who likes destroying beatuiful bridges in the name of stupidity. http://wdrb.images.worldnow.com/images/9727642_G.jpg
It is easy. She must have come from Swift's training program that this is a passing grade to the teacher.
Another interesting structure with a junction joining on the bridge. One of my favorite parts of my Pittsburgh Mainlines DVD.
I got a DVD of railroad action in Pittsburgh in the days prior to the combined NS/CSX takeover of Conrail and this bridge was featured early on in the DVD.
Interesting bridge as the rails are recessed into the girder structure. I can't figure out why it was designed that way in the first place, but it makes for an interesting video seeing the trains look like they are sinking.
Beautiful bridge, and I think closing it to vehicle traffic was smart to prevent a terrorist attack. I want to keep locations looking nice, and they did the right thing to build a new bridge and keep the old one for pedestrian and cycling traffic
Amazing how long that temporary roadway stayed in place. I wonder if Alaska didn't care to replace this bridge, and how many Presidents that thing survived through (LBJ,Nixon,Ford,Carter,Reagan,Bush 41, Clinton, and Bush 43.) That is an amazing feat to last 8 Presidents.
It is amazing at the major films that were filmed there.
