The rail line just south of this bridge in Limestone County, Alabama was coverted to the Richard Martin Trail as part of a rails to trails project.
The Kentucky Historic Resources Inventory prepared in 1984 states the bridge was built in 1890 by the L&N Railroad at a different location. In 1902, the railroad offered the bridge to the City and the bridge was moved and installed at this location in 1905.
The bridge was closed to traffic in the early 90's and restored as a pedestrian bridge in 2007.
The old bridge (the "K" truss) is still open to traffic. This 1933 bridge is the old US Hwy 90 bridge and is open to local traffic and is now designated as LA Hwy 182. The newer adjacent bridge now carries US Hwy 90 traffic. As far as I know, there are no plans to remove the old bridge.
