Philip,
Do you know anything about this pony truss that is right across the street from Wynnewood? There’s not even a page for it. I’ll make one now.

I didn’t realize I was driving over an arch bridge today. I snapped some quick pictures because I saw a replacement bridge under construction. It looks like it will also be an open spandrel arch bridge.

They have a problem with people stealing the signs due to the name of the bridge. :)

Has anyone seen another bridge with a walkway like this? It was built with a walkway that goes down below the deck at the entrance of the bridge and comes back up in the middle. They removed the walkway eventually when they widened the lanes, but they left the sidewalks that went under the bridge on the Sheffield side. I grew up here and always wondered about the caged-off walkways on the side. I was about 25 when I found out there used to be a walkway in the center.

Here it is with the walkway still in place.

Info about the railroad that used to cross this bridge and the new rail-to-trail that crosses it:
"From 1856 to 1985, the Mountain Goat Railroad carried coal and passengers between Palmer and Cowan in Grundy and Franklin Counties of the Cumberland Plateau. It was named the Mountain Goat because the climb onto the Plateau was one of the steepest railroad ascents in the world.
Now, the Mountain Goat Trail Alliance is seeking to reclaim the path of the railroad. Working with local governments and other interested groups, the Alliance’s mission is to turn the old railroad bed into a multi-use recreational path. When finished, the 35-plus-mile trail will connect seven towns in two counties."

Unfortunately, the curved t-beams were replaced in 2013 when the bridges were widened to 10 lanes.
