Description

FROM THE 1996-2001 PENNSYLVANIA HISTORIC BRIDGE SURVEY: The 1-span, 58'-long, pin-connected, steel Pratt pony truss bridge built in 1909 is supported on stone abutments with wingwalls. The truss is traditionally composed with built-up members for the upper chords and verticals, and eye bars for the lower chords and diagonals. U-shaped hangers pick-up rolled section floorbeams carrying steel stringers and an open steel grid deck. Lattice railings are placed to the inside of the trusses. The bearings have been encased in concrete, and cover plates have been welded at the end post/upper chord connections at an unknown date. The bridge is a late and undistinguished example of the pin-connected Pratt truss bridge type/design. It has no unusual or distinctive details or features, and it illustrates the high degree of standardization that characterized the bridge type/design after 1890. More distinguished and complete earlier examples have been identified in the county and region. The bridge is not historically or technologically significant for its setting or context.
