Rittenhouse Road Bridge

A classic southeastern Pennsylvania stone arch bridge. Sadly, skyrocketing traffic volume thanks to out-of-control development has rendered this bridge not unsafe, but obsolete. If that isn't bad enough, the detour for the Bustard Road bridge over the Turnpike (closed until May 2015) turns through the intersection of Old Forty Foot Road and Rittenhouse Road, just east of the bridge. The deck width of 16.4 feet is self-explanatory; the only way two passenger cars can pass each other on the span is if they squeeze by at 10 miles an hour. That's why when they erected the temporary signal, they had to put an advance signal in front of the west end of the bridge for eastbound traffic.
