Only in PA would we demolish a bridge that once carried vehicles for a slab of concrete for pedestrians only.

Hmmmmm.........now wouldn't that historic truss bridge have made a DANDY pedestrian bridge?!?! NAAAAAH........this is Pennsylvania.......and we simply CAN'T have that!!! (Am I dripping enough sarcasm here?)........

Apparently the Keystone State just can't get enough of these................

Interesting case. Often the state DOT reasoning includes alledged need for a wider bridge, two lanes, more pedestrian access etc. This solution appears to solve nothing, widen nothing. Weird.

Here is another beautiful historic truss bridge that was demolished and replaced with a MOB (Mail Order Bridge).

Bing Maps has different age Bird's Eye Imagry for different zoom levels for this area, one image shows before one shows after: http://www.bing.com/maps/explore/?org=aj#/y5yxty95qxocs7gj or see attached.

Kline's Bridge was closed to all vehicle traffic about 5 years ago - circa 2005. In 2008 or so it was removed and replaced by a new 'pedestrian-only' bridge by Lehigh County. It is about a mile from where I work and am now typing this. If you want or need confirmation, there were several articles about in the The Morning Call, the Allentown area newspaper.
