N&W - Black Bridge

Hey George.

I took these photo's last month. I am slowly riding sections of the GAP, taking my time to enjoy what is offered.

I crossed the bridge from the western terminus of the old P&LE to the abutment on the east side of the Youghiogheny.

It's passable, but heavily vegetated from trees and vines growing up through the bridge. The walkway is in disrepair, and although there is heavy evidence of foot traffic, it is not the safest, by a long shot.

The span is elevated above the Yough River, the Connellsville Sewage Treatment Facility, and the CSX main. It tied the Norfolk and Western into the P&LE. If you stand on the span over the CSX main, and look east, or toward town, and to the left, you can see the new N&S junction with CSX.

I have a question Aldo.I looked at the map and was wondering. Is that one whole bridge that runs over the river and the railroad tracks?

We walked over it yesterday.

It is in very bad shape. The wood is rotten and the steel grates are scary.

But we did it
