Dana and Kay,while i was in the area i noticed a N/S underpass on Old Wyomissing Road which runs parallel to Wyomissing Creek.I couldn't see any identifying marks on this stone underpass but figure it to have been built maybe during the last century by the craftsmanship involved.
Dana and Kay,i visited this bridge on 5/28/17 and read the builders plaque. This bridge was built by Bear Creek Construction Company.Never heard of them. Also they have it posted for a 6 ton weight limit. The bridge seemed to me to be in very good shape on the deck of the bridge except maybe for a bent railing.Couldn't get underneath due to heavy brush and plus i don't need to get ticks or any bugs to take home with me.
Not a problem,Dana and Kay.Since PennDOT is having alot of structurally deficient bridges repaired or replaced around Reading it's only natural i look into it.
George its all good! Thanks for being Berks County bridge spotter1
Thanks Dana and Kay.I was just going to look at this bridge on google maps to see if i could identify what kind of bridge it was.I do remember crossing this bridge in the past many times. You guys make my job of looking at bridges so much easier. Thanks again.
Just read in today's Reading Eagle about this bridge. This bridge will be removed this summer and the demolition permit prohibits any work from Oct.1 to Dec.31 because of trout activity in Wyomissing Creek at that time.Sealed bids are being taken at this time for removal of this structurally deficient bridge which was built in 1961.According to the article most of the deficiencies are underneath the bridge deck itself. Now here's the kicker. The borough of West Reading wants to replace this bridge with a pedestrian walkway. Can't wait to see this!By the way,I was wrong about the N/S overpass running parallel to Wyomissing Creek. It actually crosses over Wyomissing Creek and over Old Wyomissing Road.
