Just read in todays local paper that the supervisors discussed temporary weight restrictions be enforced on Schaeffer Road while this bridge is closed for repairs after April and lasting for 30 days. The main concern is truck traffic.Detour signs were discussed being placed on Rte 222 to dissuade truckers from travelling on Schaeffer Road during the closure. When I read or hear more on this project I will post it here.
This bridge will be closed by the end of April for deck and underside repair which will last 30 days with detours planned.During the closure the supervisors are requesting that one lane of the bridge be open for emergencies. The bridge may be subject to weight restrictions due to structural instability. This surprise PennDOT bridge closure came up during last Thursdays supervisors meeting.
From July 22 to August 23 Rte 73 will be closed between Rte 222 and Park Road for repairs to this bridge as per plans from PennDOT.Work includes concrete deck repairs, concrete beam and substructure repairs, bearing repairs, joint repairs/joint sealing and scour countermeasures/channel repairs.Local access will be maintained for property owners only. This bridge which was built in 1927 has an average daily traffic volume of 6,660 vehicles.PennDOT advises drivers to expect significant delays.
