Description
This two-span stone arch bridge is a contributing structure of a National Register Historic District. It is slated to be demolished and replaced with a so-called context sensitive pre-stressed box beam structure with stone shapes on the concrete (accomplished by stone-shaped form liners). According to PennDOT:
The existing bridge is a two-span, closed spandrel stone arch structure. The walls are constructed with undressed, rubble-coursed fieldstone with stone voussoirs framing the arched openings. Concrete parging obscures some of the stone work. Parapet walls do not extend above the existing roadway. Currently, a wire rope guide rail attached to metal posts frames the roadway across the bridge. The metal posts are attached to concrete footers placed in front of the spandrel walls.
