Description

Construction on the tunnel was started in 1912 and finished in 1915. In 1918 it partially collapsed the collapsed section was daylighted and safety features were added including Switching signals and a unique fire barrier. The fire barrier consisted of steel doors on each end of the tunnel witch were hung by soft steel chain links. In case of a fire the chains were supposed to melt causing the doors to close. It was abandoned in 1938 along with the rest of the line. And the tunnel collapsed some time in between 1938 and 2002.
