River Road Bridge Removed, Toledo , Ohio
Posted November 9, 2014, by William Frisk (wcjfrisk [at] hotmail [dot] com)

The River Road concrete bridge over Delaware Creek was removed in the Summer of 2014 and replaced by a higher steel girder bridge with concrete deck and rails. The span is wider and the full width of the watercourse is open again. Abutments with large rock rip rap define the now much widened channel. The old bridge could act as a pinch point in ice flows and flooding. The old bridge apparently had a water main in the infill between the walls which had to be removed and capped before the bridge was removed. Extensive fill was also unstable on the approaches and was removed.
