Bowerston Tunnel

Trains magazine, February 1951, says, "and the elimination of tunnel 10, is now an accomplished fact. A huge cut, 600 feet wide across the top and 53 feet deeper than the height of Niagara Falls, replaces the tunnel, just west of Bowerston." I was just reading this copy of Trains magazine from my collection.

I found, what I think is tunnel 6 further up the line in Fairplay. I also see there is another tunnel very close to it. I am assuming tunnel 6. Tunnel 7 is supposedly at Jewett, and I see an open cut on google maps. Is this one at Bowerston Tunnel 8? I know 9 is a bat preserve and 10 is mostly buried. I am looking for locations of 4 and any others bypassed by this line in the 50s. Any help would be appreciated.

I can not find western portal. Was it destroyed?

At one time, I had confused this with the Copeland Tunnel. One of my [many] railroad videos, one of them covering the Pennsey (Pennsylvania Railroad)had a part where they where showing the progress of the railroad, one being bypassing tunnels. I have been "researching" on and off for this tunnel. and I finally found it.
