Bridge taken out of service after repeated failed Federal Railroad Administration inspections; ordered closed late 1995, last use Feb. 1996 to clear off RR equipment on island. All track removed from island ca, 2004.

Reports indicate bridge was also a road bridge, supposedly the only one to the island until the late 1960s.

This bridge is over the Little river (Niagara River). I believe you are referring to the bridge over the canal.

Douglas, this bridge and the bridge over Tonawanda Creek are two similar but different bridges in the same general vicinity.
