Given what appears to be a confluence to the left in the postcard, as well as the stream's width, I'll agree with that conclusion.

Based on the background hills, I'm going with crossing the Beaver Kill at East Branch NY.

Based on maps from HistoricAerials, the railroad stayed on the South side of the river between the locations noted on the postcard, only crossing the river east of Downsville at a place named Rock Eddy.
