This is the only bridge that connects Hatteras Island to the mainland of North Carolina (Cape Hatteras), via adjacent islands. The bridge is located within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Future prospects
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is replacing Bonner Bridge because of problems related to beach erosion and severe weather. Replacement bridge set to open within days per NCDOT. Existing structure will be demolished except for 1000' on the south end of the inlet for use as a fishing pier.

Take a look on Google Street View for views of the new bridge bring built. Google earth view does not show much, but take a ride across the bridge, and see the new bridge being built -- cool.
