CNLA - Newport River Bridge
Description
This particular rare bascule bridge was constructed with the links connected below the counterweight to the triangular A posts. On most overhead counterweight bascules has the links connected on top of the counterweight to the posts that pushes the counterweight down and the bridge raises and raises up when the bridge lowers. This Morehead City bridge when the bridge lowers the links under the counterweight lifts up and pulls the counterweight back down when the bridge raises.
