Thieves stealing the steel hand rails off this bridge with a cutting torch set the deck on fire twice. The first time in 2014 the local fire department was able to stop the fire before too much damage was done. Unfortunately they returned in 2015 and this time the deck was almost completely destroyed. On the positive side, now they don't have anything to stand on to try a third time.

The first time, it was believed to be two white males in a brown pickup truck.

Most of the decking has been burned off this bridge. Someone shooting fireworks off it set it on fire. The fire burned itself out, but not before destroying most of the North half of the deck. Can not walk across with risking life and limb.

I spent some time on McAll Creek in Lucian, Ms., when I was a kid. . . I especially loved the old Bridge of Mcall Creek.... We would build fires down on the creek side and camp for days .. I love this place!!!

I loved your pictures of the bridge near my homestead there in Lucien, MS. I grew up there and saw them build that bridge and put it in place. I heard the pile drivers daily as they drove the timbers in to anchor the bridge in place. It was a reminder that the bridge I grew up with was now a part of history and would be torn down. The old "Swinging Bridge", as we called it was, for a lot of folk, a way out to highway 84 but to us kids it was a playground of sorts. Using the sway of the bridge from fully loaded trucks gave us a reverse bungee lift as the vehicle went from section to section. We could get a 15 to 20 foot rise hanging onto the rope tied to the longest span when fully flexed.

I was wondering if you had any pictures that showed that old swinging bridge in its heyday around the late 30's and early 40's? Three of my girls on the Lucien Bridge

This bridge is now closed to any vehicular traffic starting in 2010.

Traveled down this way about three weeks ago- used to go tubing down McCall Creek as a child. Bridge is still intact but barricaded to prevent vehicular traffic. Can still be walked across, however.
