This bridge (and the road leading to it) is closed as of November, 2017. The approach from the south is flooded, but can be waded on foot. The photo was taken by me on November 16, 2017 as dusk was coming on. Sad that this bridge has been allowed to deteriorate.

Supervisors Minute Book Jan. 1924 in reference to the contract for Abiaca Creek at Black Hawk ... for F. L. Marshall. Book K -- This is the late Frank Lamar "Lay" Marshall, who built many metal and other bridges in the Carroll County, Miss., area late teens 1920s and early 1930s.

Nice bridge in a very scenic location. I bet if you research the history of the bridge you will find it is much older. Any pin-connected span is normally 1910's or older.

I plan to review notes and Supervisors' minutes to try and determine which contractor built the Abiaca Creek Bridge in Carroll County, Miss., near Blackmonton community on County Road 144. I've written about its awards and its plight off and on since 2004 at least. Some think the old bridge just ought to be scrapped for some other costly structure. Some think it's more than a shame that more constant maintenance over the decades has not been practically done. This shot was taken in August 2003 to show part of the environment. Some of the locals referred to this creek as Hodges Creek because of an old time cemetery perhaps that had been very near.
