With the crazy route the road takes to the East of this bridge, it could have very easily been bypassed with a new bridge on a better alignment. But with the previous losses of the Williamsville and Wappapello Bridges, it is obvious this county just doesn't care about history.
Save the Loundes Bridge, and the historical significance of this bridge over Bear Creek will forever remain as much a focal point of the history of Greenville, Crossroads Church and the generations of those who have enjoyed, lived near, or on Bear Creek such as the Swaffords, Copelands, Allens, Barks and Stephens since the 1800's.
The fresh water springs feeding Bear Creek are protected.
The waterways of the Bear and Lost Creek are protected.
Loundes Bridge also needs to be protected. Without the Loundes Bridge, many a family would have been stranded or drowned by the seasonal flooding.
Thanks Herman Jr & Glenda for keeping the family history going, in Loundes.
This is how the bridge looks in October 2008, with a large I beam welded across both ends to prevent traffic.

The Bellaire Interstate Bridge is one that should be saved, for all the reasons you listed, but probably won't.
With the iron and steel bridges having served so many years, I feel the public should get behind the restoration and moving of such bridges if the need arises to move them Demolition of these bridges is robbing society of a lot of history. Battle Creek, Michigan( Calhoun County) has saved several by dismantling and moving them to an area where they cross a small stream and are subjected to foot traffic only. I'm not sure if the bridges are totally restored, but they all look as if they have been. I don't know who does this work or who sponsors the project, but I am very thankful to whoever is doing it. It is sad to see an old bridge sitting neglected, with trees growing up through and around it. These bridges are doomed to fall into the stream someday.
The old iron bridge is a landmark. It would be a tragedy if it were to be demolished. Build a new one soon, but please keep this bridge intact!
this bridge has alot of old memories PLEASE KEEP IT!!
