My grandmother used to live about 2 miles from this bridge. In the mid 1970s we would drive from St. Louis about twice a month to visit her--whenever we would get to this bridge I knew that we were near.

Wonderful to see this lost piece of my childhood.

River Aux Vases Route B Bridge - demolition started 3/1/2010

Bridge closed to traffic 3/1/2010 for removal.

New 28 foot wide bridge will be open by 6/1/2010.

This bridge replacement is part of a 4.6 million dollar American Reinvestment and Recovery Act project to improve Route B.

Traffic volumes on this route have doubled in the last few years. This increase is likely attributable to half a dozen wineries, two quarries, and a saw mill.

Note the Warren truss style portals and sway bracing, a very uncommon feature on this doomed span.
