The replacement bridge is open. I'll get a couple of images of the replacement as soon as I can.

As I've been traveling through the area, I've been taking photos of the construction site. I won't bore you with all the images here. I'm just now getting started uploading them to my Flickr page. Here's the link:

The steel was starting to be lifted into place early yesterday morning. I was there taking photos. I will get them uploaded to the above link very soon. I shot a LOT of images yesterday morning!

I stopped by the site today after I got off work and shot some more images. They were still lifting steel. I plan on being at the site before daybreak to get some more images.

Hi! Great website! BTW, this bridge was imploded either Friday night or early Saturday morning (26 or 27 March).

These bridges will be torn down tonight at 7 PM. SB I-55 traffic will exit at Bayless, NB I-55 traffic will exit at Reavis Barracks. You can bet the Bella Villa PD will be busy writing up tickets!

The Union Road bridges will be demolished during the weekend of March 26th - 29th. Interstate 55 will be closed during this time. Traffic will be required to use I-44 and I-270 as a detour.

The Union Road bridge is actually two bridges. MoDOT says they are structurally deficient. The southbound I-55 clearance under the bridge (14' 4") has been a point of concern for tractor-trailers. So both bridges will be demolished soon and they will be replaced in the same location with a higher clearance over the interstate. This is a part of an I-55 enhancement project (see MoDOT's website / St. Louis region / South County projects for more info).
