As of December 9, 2016, the main spans and northern approaches have now been demolished...the rest is to be blown up after the 1st of the year.
Bridge is in it's final days. The new bridge is almost complete, with the final deck pour in September. Once the new bridge is "completed", it will open to two lane traffic. The Platte Purchase Bridge then will be removed, and the other lanes completed.
Free Bridge
This bridge and its neighbor bridge Fairfax are scheduled for replacement in 2014 http://www.modot.org/kansascity/major_projects/US69MRB.htm

I was so glad when the deck was finally upgraded. I was terrified of this bridge as a child - the deck back then was slatted, and you could look down and see the river beneath you while waiting in line for the toll booth.
Thank you for photo. Toll booth was removed about summer 2000. Now it is free bridges. I went to Platte Purchase Bridges. THANK YOU.

Glad you got some shots as this site did not have any.
