Description

This bridge once provided access to the former Hannibal Lime Co, later Marblehead Lime Mine Co facilities located up the draw south of Bear Creek. The City of Hannibal has now put in an asphalted 2.5 mile walkway loop which provides access to the old mines where Indiana bats have since taken up residence. This is now called the Sodalis Nature Preserve. The walking path is located on former St. Louis & Hannibal RR right of way. CB&Q, later BNSF still utilized this r.o.w. to serve what was left of the lime kilns and mines into the 1980's. While still known as Munger Street, this roadway was closed off and the name Munger Lane was used on another street on the west side of town. Mr. Munger was a principal owner of Hannibal Lime Co.
