Description
On August 2, 1956, the first two contracts in the U.S. under the Interstate Highway Act were awarded. One was for I-70 at Saint Charles and the other was for this Route 66/Interstate 44 project through Laclede County, at the time Designated as Interstate project 2. Almost exactly a year later, on August 8, 1957, a completed stretch of I-44 bypassed Lebanon.
