As reported in the Boone County Journal in October 2017, this bridge has received a FLAP (Federal Lands Access Program) grant and is scheduled to be replaced with a modern two-lane bridge anticipated to open in the fall of 2019.

Surveying and design will take place in early 2018, and it is expected that the replacement bridge will necessitate complete demolition of the original bridge.

It is also reported that the road is planned to be realigned on the Callaway side to eliminate the hairpin turn required in the current road.

Congratulations to everyone involved that access will return at this crossing, (closed to vehicles since October 2016) and thank you to the commitment of Callaway and Boone Counties. I understand Callaway County has committed to maintain the new bridge.

If replaced as scheduled, the old bridge will have served for 110 years, and will be sorely missed.

If you are aware of any updates to this information, please post!

I see serious (but easily repairable) problems below the deck...but little else. Replacing those stringers that are full of holes would go a long way to bringing this old girl up to code. From the comments in the articles I'm a little confused on weather they are rallying to save the bridge, or just get a new one.

All of the vertical structural members have been labeled since I was here 3 weeks earlier.

E or W for east or west side of the bridge.

0 to 6 for each member from the Callaway side to Boone.

This bridge could use major deck repair. I beleave it belongs to Boone County, but they state Calloway County ownes it. I do not care who owns this bridge,,but all of us neigbors in the area would like to see some repairs done. Maybe even a fresh coat of paint. I know it is not a major bridge in the state, but it is used daily by people in the area. What does it take to have minor repair work done or have the road graded for a straight approach from the south end which is now a hazard s turn in the winter Thank you A. Gloss

The main support columns were repoured in the mid to late 1990's. This bridge had a catastropic collapse during the flood of '93.
