The security is so high because someone doused it in gasoline and set it ablaze in 2006.
This bridge was actually built in 1912, but the first bridge here opened in the early 1880's. I have some photos of it that I will upload in the coming days. The only downside of this bridge is the security, which is completely unreasonable. There are 10' high barbwire fences, gates, cameras and about 15 no trespassing signs just on the west end of the bridge, not to mention the unused deck stripped off on the approaches.
