Granite Avenue Bridge (Old)
Description
This early Strauss overhead counterweight bascule bridge replaced by a Scherzer type rolling lift bridge and they're many examples of the Strauss bascule bridges that competes the rolling lift bridge Scherzer type invented by William and Albert Scherzer of the Scherzer Rolling Lift Bridge Company. This particular bridge is invented by Joseph B Strauss of The Strauss Bascule Bridge Company, he developed three types of bascule bridges the Overhead counterweight type the underneath counterweight type and the heel trunnion type.
