Description
The 1979 removal of the bascule span of this bridge altered the history integrity of the structure, since this is now simply a 1930s steel stringer bridge on stone piers. The structure is still historic due to its age and stone piers, but it would have been nice to see the bascule span left in place even if inoperable (although it is curious why the span was removed considering that the Malden Bridge downstream is still operable, meaning that the river is navigable at least in part)
