Description 

The Gillis Long bridge replaced an earlier swing bridge named the Murray Street bridge (named for conencting Main Street in Pineville with Murray Street in Alexandria).

This bridge can be seen in the opening of "Cajun Pawn Stars" on History Channel.

This bridge will be closing for the rest of 2013 for rehabilitation.

Red River US 165B Bridge

The bridge to the south is the "Purple Heart Memorial Bridge" it replaced a four-lane vertical lift bridge very similar to this bridge. The northbound bridge was built on the original piers of the old bridge, which was known as the "Fulton Street Bridge". Notice the difference in size. I cannot find any pictures of the old bridge though I will dig through our family photos. Maybe a page for the Fulton Street bridge should be created if information can be found for it.

All but the last picture above were from the north bank. These are from the south bank.

The official name is "Gillis Long Bridge" named after the politician. Also known locally as the "Jackson Street Bridge".
