Description 

Named for an outlet gate of the Nortport feeder dam that was first created in 1877 when flooding threatened to breach the dam. The dam itself was built several decades earlier for a proposed canal from Ft Wayne to Chicago. The canal was never built.

The large building in the background is the Kneipp Sanitarium
